Alias for REST Services

Db2 REST services, with versioning enabled, sets the first service created via the BIND SERVICE command to be the default service.

at this stage the URL and the REST service are in sync and the URL need not reference the version as DB2 will invoke the default version anyway e.g.

rest service: INVOKE_A_REST_SERVICE (V1 - and this is the default version)

URL: http://domain/services/qual/INVOKE_A_REST_SERVICE

if we need to change the rest service and a new version is created say e.g. V2

NOW to be able to invoke this we have to now change the URL to:

URL: http://domain/services/qual/INVOKE_A_REST_SERVICE/V2

if V2 is not used then DB2 will invoke the V1 which is the default.

this means that the URL now needs to be changed wherever it is being used and this could be multiple applications which may be owned by various diff teams etc.

to avoid the application change we either free the old version OR manually update the ISDEFAULT column in DSNSERVICE table (this is not documented and I assume not supported).

another pain point is the version could be a string of characters (site specific e.g. date, ts based etc). these characters are in most cases meaningless to the applications that only want to call a named REST service e.g.

URL: http://domain/services/qual/INVOKE_A_REST_SERVICE/V2 (V2 does not add any value to the URL from the application perspective)

another e.g. here could be:

URL: http://domain/services/qual/INVOKE_A_REST_SERVICE/V2.ABCDEF.TS1

    hi Janet,

the APAR mentioned talks about FTBs for non unique indexes.

"With APAR PH30978 applied, Db2 12 at function level 508 or higher now supports fast index traversal (FTB) for non-unique indexes."

Is this the correct APAR or does this APAR deliver more than FTB enhancements

We are pleased to inform you this idea is solved but using a different approach than what was suggested. Please refer to Aha! idea DB24ZOS-I-951 for details, and APAR PH30978 which sets the default version of a REST service. Thank you.
