Native REST services in Db2 system have packages. There can also exist inactive copies (original and previous copies - COPYID 1 and 2) of these REST service packages - coming out of PLANMGMT.
Problem:
Current FREE SERVICE command implementation (currently following the Remote FREE PACKAGE design) does not provide the functionality to free the inactive copies, but keep the active copy of the package.
Current FREE PACKAGE command implementation does not provide the functionality to free packages for REST services.
Current State:
We have to keep the inactive copies of REST service packages in the DB2 system as long as the corresponding REST service is active and used. This copies occupies space in SPT01.
Proposed solution:
Allow local FREE PACKAGE with PLANMGMTSCOPE(INACTIVE/ORIGINAL/PREVIOUS) for REST service packages
or
Implement PLANMGMTSCOPE + INVALIDONLY options for FREE SERVICE command
Value:
general housekeepning and brings a little relief for SPT01 space occupation
Please be aware, that the number of inactive REST service packages will increase over time with the increase of REST service usage.

Hello Frank, That is great news. Thank you for the update!

Hello Janet and Db2 for z/OS team,
thank you for providing this functionality via UI92473. We alreday received the PTF and will activate it with the next maintenance rollout.
Best regards
Frank
Hello Frank, Great news! Db2 for z/OS APAR PH54129/UI92473 is now available. This APAR delivered the function you requested: to delete only the INACTIVE copies of the RESTful service package version.
Sincerely,
The Db2 for z/OS Team
Hello Frank, We agree with you and have therefore re-opened this idea and are re-reviewing it at this time to determine next state.
Hello Janet and Db2 for z/OS,
I took a look into PH21058 (= Db2 V12 PTF UI68731). This PTF is already active in our systems.
The functionality provided by PH21058 / UI68731 for freeing RESTful services is not the functionality we requested by this idea.
We do not want to free a whole version of a RESTful service, which is possible with PH21058, but rather want to delete only the INACTIVE copies of the RESTful service package version. The inactive copies of a package version are created by Db2 within PLANMANAGEMENT concept.
Therefore I think, your status change of this idea to "Delivered" is not correct.
Best regards
Frank
Hello, We are pleased to inform you this Aha! Idea has been delivered in APAR PH21058: NEW FUNCTION UPDATE OF DB2 NATIVE RESTFUL SERVICES SUPPORT.
This APAR provides updates to Db2 native RESTful services that allow a Db2 requester to free a service on a Db2 server.
Sincerely,
The Db2 for z/OS Team
