Allow the setting of a global option make LOAD jobs fail if a PRESORT cannot be performed

UET will be withdrawn from support next year and its use needs to be removed.

To do this the newly provided support for the PRESORT keyword in the LOAD utility needs to be the same and consistent as the functionality that UET provided for PRESORT.

Currently, if LOAD is unable to perform a PRESORT due to a restriction or an issue it will just ignore the PRESORT keyword and carry on and load the data unsorted. (eg just a DSNU195I message issued)

In contrast, if UET is unable to perform the PRESORT due to a restriction or issue, it will fail and give a message why it could not honour the PRESORT, eg ABPP9939E ABPU5337E ABPU5913E ABPU5915E

If you specify PRESORT you expect it to be honoured and performed, if LOAD is unable to do the PRESORT due to a restriction or an issue it should fail and tell you, not just carry on and ignore the PRESORT and LOAD the data anyway in an unsorted order.

A global option for LOAD needs to be provided to request LOAD to fail should it not be able to perform the PRESORT.

This would allow PRESORT in load to work in a consistent way as UET and allow the migration from UET performing the PRESORT to LOAD performing the PRESORT.

This option needs to be set at a system level and not via the utility control cards of the batch jobs thus not requiring any changes to existing batch jobs.

Dear Bryan, Thank you for submitting this enhancement request. The Db2 for z/OS team reviewed it and provided the following feedback:

In general the strategy is to not cause an entire utility to fail when an option cannot be supported. That said, we must distinguish between options that are optimisations vs. options that have a data impact. The answer to this should not be a new zparm for every single potential option to give customers ultimate flexibility. There are no plans to address this requirement in the near future and therefore this is being marked as not under consideration currently, but it is something that will be re-reviewed in future if the need increases.

Please do continue to submit enhancement requests to us as we review each and every one to assess its value and overall improvement for the Db2 for z/OS product.

    Sincerely,

    The Db2 for z/OS Team
