Implicit Tablespaces for conversion of multi-table tablespaces to UTS PBG

When converting multi-table tablespaces to universal tablespaces with new command ALTER TABLESPACE MOVE TABLE you need to create a new tablespace for each table explicitely before you can use the command.

It would be very nice if the ALTER TABLESPACE MOVE TABLE would be able to create the needed tablespaces implicitely, controlled by parameter or changed syntax of the command.

    Hi Janet,

    many thanks for your explanations about our idea! We will just use the Db2 Admin Tool functionality (MOVE TABLE) for creating the new tablespaces. ���

    Dear Thomas and Joachim, Thank you for submitting this enhancement request. The Db2 for z/OS development team reviewed it and provided the following feedback:

    Multi-table tablespace conversion to PBG requires the explicit creation of target PBG tablespaces. This was a deliberate design decision because Db2 has to support scenarios where customers have specific naming conventions for tablespaces, so support for explicitly created tablespaces was a necessity whereas support for implicit creation was not. Target tablespaces can be created in advance by REXX scripts, or by use of administration tooling. E.g. the IBM Administration Tool has been enhanced to support this type of scenario to simplify conversion. Since such alternatives exist, Db2 development has other priorities in the short/medium term than to deliver this capability and therefore this will be marked as currently not under consideration.
