sqlcode -803 INSERT precheck

Looking at DB2 log when a SQLCODE -803 duplicate key condition occurs in an INSERT often leads to a rollback of the change already made to the tablespace and/or in the non unique indexes defined against the affected table. Would it be possible to check for the duplicate key condition before updating the data and index pages? this would lead in a more efficient revert of the data changes made and less read/write IO activity in log. In addition it could alleviate some object unavailability issues.

    Dear Sergi,

Thank you for submitting this Db2 for z/OS enhancement request. After giving the request a comprehensive review, we have determined that we cannot include it as a candidate in an upcoming product deliverable because the request has a high implementation cost with a low relative value. Consequently, we will not be implementing this request.

We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. We also hope that you will continue to submit ideas for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.

    Sincerely,

    Db2 for z/OS Team
