DB2 enhancement of global transaction processing

We have COBOL batch procedure started on z/OS that gets always abend for SQL error -911 .

The Cobol Host program1 does DB2 SP in order to transfer control on MicroFocus COBOL on linux and then return on z/OS by doing another SP call where another COBOL Host program2 does try an update of same row of DB2 Table made by Cobol Host program1.

This problem is caused by 2 different thread created, one is the major thread and another created from remote call of stored procedure

Idea is to manage a sigle thread so that we can have a single LUW to manage serialization and two phase commit

Hello Claudio, After a clarification with Jeffrey Tuo on this requirement, we realize the provided APAR won’t satisfy your idea.

This idea is a very good one, and we will keep it in our backlog. But due to the high cost to implement, and other items prioritized for our current roadmap, we will not be considering this idea a this time.

We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. And we hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.

    Sincerely,

    Db2 for z/OS Team

Hello Claudio, Thank you for your question. APAR PH45312: SHARING LOCKS WITH AN EXTERNAL STORED PROCEDURE delivered the new function.

    Sincerely,

    The Db2 for z/OS Team

Does this parameter need a prerequisite apar or did it already exist?

Dear Claudio, Thank you for submitting this enhancement request. Our Db2 for z/OS engineers have reviewed it and suggest that you try to share locks for stored procedures that invoke transactions in RRS context by using profile tables. You can find more information about this in our IBM Documentation, here: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/db2-for-zos/13?topic=crc-sharing-locks-stored-procedures-that-invoke-transactions-in-rrs-contexts-by-using-profile-tables

We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. And we hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.

    Sincerely,

    Db2 for z/OS Team
