remove limitations in workfile database which leedsto outages

When a workfile is created Db2 increments obid, when a workfile ist dropped the obid is not released by Db2. There is a restriction of maximum 500 workfiles. When the limit has been reached, no more work files can be created, SQL code -497 is returned. The only way is to delete and recreate the entire database. However, this means a outage od Db2.

There are various reasons why work files must be temporarily added and removed again, most common: special workload that requires a lot of workspace; errors in Db2 optimizer (incorrect access paths that force sorting); relocating the workfiles to other disk boxes; ...

Deleting and recreating the workfile database - which means an outage - just to release control structures is nowaday no longer a contemporary approach.

We would like to have a procedure to release the obids in the workfile database without outage. Maybe it is an option to allow more than one database with create datavase as workfile for one server? Until then, it would be very helpful if the free obids for workfiles could be determined with a simple query or command.
