DB2 for zOS correlated column behavior

Problem statement - unqualified column name interpreted as correlated reference. As per example below:

DELETE FROM SYSADM.T1
WHERE COL3 IN (SELECT COL3 FROM SYSADM.T2)
--> DSNT404I SQLCODE = 012, WARNING: THE UNQUALIFIED COLUMN NAME COL3 WAS INTERPRETED AS A CORRELATED REFERENCE

--> SYSADM.T1 got empty - all 10 rows were deleted
--> SYSADM.T2 still has the 10 rows (as expected)

SQLCODE +012 received with the following is documented explanation:

Explanation

The column name does not identify a column of a table or view in the FROM clause of the subquery. However, it does identify a column of a table or view in a FROM clause at a higher level in the statement.


Proposal of enhancement:

To avoid unexpected results enforce negative -12 sqlcode via system profile definition or zparm. The solution with system profile is preferred as it allows to control the behavior on the more granular level per application, userID etc.

    Dear Ryszard, Thank you for submitting this Db2 for z/OS Idea. After giving the request a comprehensive review, we have determined that we cannot include it as a candidate in an upcoming deliverable because it is not consistent with the product strategy for future deliverables. Our Db2 developer worked with your case and suggested to explictily qualify the column names.

    Consequently, we will not be implementing this Idea.

    We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. We also hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.
