Workspace Db2 for z/OS

Allow customers to specify a name for SYSINSTL ID instead of forcing "SYSINSTL"

Currently, IBM allows customers to install Db2 for z/OS under Install SYSOPR authority. This requires that the customer specify "SYSINSTL" as the installer ID in several key steps of the DB2 Install CLIST. "SYSINSTL" is then used for definition of routines in DSNTIJRT, as well as IVP operations and system routine ownership.

In customers who are not using native Db2 Security, "SYSINSTL" needs to be defined as an accessor ID to the customer's external security product, RACF or other.

This name may not fit the customer's naming standard for IDs and/or groups within their mainframe security environment. It also does not include "DSN", or any other hallmarks that indicate it is to be used with Db2, so a security administrator may not readily identify it as Db2-related or ascertain its purpose.

Many customers already use a Bind-Agent or other non-person ID for the creation and ownership of system routines and objects. The addition of an additional ID, "SYSINSTL", causes additional complexity in the system security environment.

For that reason, I suggest that IBM allow the customer to decide the name of the AUTHID that will function in the "SYSINSTL" role during Db2 subsystem installation, rather than force the use of the literal "SYSINSTL". This could be specified via a field on the DB2 Install CLIST.

    Dear Mark,

Thank you for submitting this Db2 for z/OS enhancement request. We have reviewed this request and believe it is a good candidate for the Db2 for z/OS product. However, it does not align within functionality prioritized for delivery within the next 12 months. Therefore, unfortunately, we will not be considering this idea at this time.

We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. We hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.

    Sincerely,

    Db2 for z/OS Team
