LOAD Replace improvement for RI tables

We had a Db2 DDL change where a new table "b" was created with a RI constraint to a parent table "a" which was also modified (DROP/CREATE). Table "a" had several rows which were unloaded before the change and loaded back after the DDL changes (LOAD with RESUME NO REPLACE). Afterwards we recognized an CHECK PENDING status on the newly created child table which contained no rows. The load utility could check all RIs and dependent tables whether they contain rows or not. Therefore the CHECK PENDING STATUS does not need to be set.

Dear Florian, Thank you for submitting this enhancement request. Our development team reviewed it and provided the following feedback:

There is no plan to support RI constraint checking on all dependent tables when running LOAD REPLACE against the parent tables, which would require LOAD to serialize on all the child tables with exclusive access, as well as consuming significant resources to perform potential one to many child RI relationship checking. It is suggested that you exploit the NOCHECKPEND option on the LOAD statement to avoid setting CHKP on the child tables, and/or use it to defer the CHECK DATA execution until a later point.

We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. We also hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.

    Sincerely,

    Db2 for z/OS Team
