Db2: Recovery of Mainframe Db2 databases without applying changes.

When the DB2 is performing a recover it uses log and copy files, it may be some sitations where the log contains changes that we dont want to restore.

For exemple we may have inserts made by an authorized program and also updates performed by an user with privileged authority. But in the recover we only want to keep the changes made by the program.

It would be possible to exclude changes (by user, program,...) at recovery time and, if in some cases it is not possible to do so, inform about this situation.?

Dear Gerard, Thank you for submitting this enhancement request. Our development team reviewed it and have provided the following feedback:

The main design of the Db2 RECOVER utility, whether to current or to a prior point in time, is to recover the target objects to a point of consistency with regard to inflight commits and aborts. There is no mechanism for a user to influence the RECOVER utility to only apply some specific URs and not others, which also can lead to other inconsistency during log apply for a multiply updated data rows, ...etc. The requested feature might be better pursued via tooling (such as the Db2 Log Analysis Tool or Recovery Expert Tool) for selectively backing out changes identified for a particular user id or time range...etc.

We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. We also hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.

    Sincerely,

    Db2 for z/OS Team
