HSM allows to move DB2 page sets by stopping them and copying them and then starting the page sets again.
HSM does this by DIS DB(...) SP(...) USE and a subsequent STO DB(...) SP(...). If in the small timing window between the DIS command and the STO command a new user access the object, this flow could end up in STOPP with a lot of consequences on the object (timeouts, abends of application etc.). BTW: We have set the zPARM RETRY_STOPPED_OBJECTS, but this does not help in our situation descibed in the below mentioned case.
Therefore the request is to allow the query on an object and then the stop in one go, e.g. a new command STOP DB(...) SP(...) IFNOTINUSE. This command is successful if object not in use and is not successful if in-use. The appropriate situation is indicated by return code: 0 means successful and 4 or 8 means object in-use and cannot be stopped.
Logic of this new parameter of STO command is handled internally in DB2.
