There is currently a restriction on the use of archive-enabled tables and temporal tables in one statement:
The execution of this statement leads to SQLCODE -20555:
SELECT * FROM DB2.LZTB0586
WHERE VNR IN (
SELECT VNR
FROM DB2.LZTB0520)
SQLERROR ON SELECT COMMAND, DESCRIBE FUNCTION
RESULT OF SQL STATEMENT:
DSNT408I SQLCODE = -20555, ERROR: AN ARCHIVE-ENABLED TABLE IS NOT ALLOWED IN THE SPECIFIED CONTEXT. REASON CODE 1
Reason Code 1 means:
The SQL statement cannot reference both an
archive-enabled table and a temporal table.
(The temporal table can be either a systemperiod
temporal table or an application-period
temporal table.) For example, a query, a view
definition, or an INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE
statement cannot reference both of these table
types.
In this case:
LZTB0520 is defined with PERIOD SYSTEM_TIME and has a versioning table DB2.LZTH0520:
ALTER TABLE DB2.LZTB0520 ADD VERSIONING USE HISTORY TABLE DB2.LZTH0520;
LZTB0586 has an archive-table DB2.LZTR0586:
ALTER TABLE DB2.LZTB0586 ENABLE ARCHIVE USE DB2.LZTR0586
But:
The value of SYSIBMADM.GET_ARCHIVE is N.
The clause FOR SYSTEM TIME is not used.
Therefore, only the base tables are accessed in this case.
In this simple case, the restriction is not necessary and the statement should be executed.

Dear Ulf,
Thank you for submitting this Db2 for z/OS enhancement request. We have reviewed this request and believe it is a good candidate
for the Db2 for z/OS product. However, it does not align within functionality prioritized for delivery within the next 12 months. Therefore, unfortunately, we will not be considering this idea at this time. We do plan to revisit this idea in the future.
We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. We hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.
Sincerely,
Db2 for z/OS Team
