Online conversion of index to partitioned index

Db2 13 Function level 500 introduces the online conversion of tables from growth-based (PBG) to range-based (PBR) partitions. The conversion alter is pending DDL applied by the REORG TABLESPACE utility. There is a need to also convert one or more indexes to partitioned indexes at the same time as the PBG to PBR table space conversion. The index alter needs to be pending DDL. The new capability for an online conversion of an index to a partitioned index should include altering the unique index to partitioned, if the table partitioning column(s) are part of the unique index. Allowing the online conversion of the table to range-partitioned and index(es) to partitioned at the same time with one execution of the REORG TABLESPACE utility will minimize the application downtime that is required to complete the conversions due to the dependent package invalidations. The online conversion of indexes, including unique indexes, to partitioned indexes should also be stand-alone and should applied by either the REORG TABLESPACE or the REORG INDEX utility.
