Db2/Z SQL timeout on behalf of application

See this idea on ideas.ibm.com

Purpose : Submit DB2Z ‘AHA’ request for Angela Yang – Scotiabank Canada Ltd.

Background:

Customer Situation is that an application (cobol) invokes a IMS Fast Path transaction, which subsequently invokes a DB2Z/OS SQL request. This DB2Z SQL request was forwarded to a remote DB2 LUW (AIX) server.  The customers situation is that if there is a spike or high volume, a situation which can occur spuriously, which could therefore potentially cause backups and delays in response time from the DB2 LUW AIX Server. Customer would like the DB2Z SQL request to have a 'elapsed time' timeout (not a cpu timer timeout), that could be set as an overarching failsafe, to allow a cancel (graciously), for the DB2Z SQL and the Remote SQL DB2 LUW. The goal is to ensure that unusually long running remote SQL's do not backup all the DB2Z and IMS regions, holding resources (locks, networks, connections, buffers, etc). This DB2Z Enhancement  request is for both Local Threads, and DDF threads. In essence, the DB2Z process is impacted by potential delays due to remote DB2 LUW, (network or otherwise caused) which can cause elongated Transaction times in the originating DB2Z, which can impact availability of DB2Z.

Similar to the concept where a JDBC API allows you to timeout SQL Requests.

Request this Enhancement to be a PTF in DB2/Z V13.
