Dear Rohini, Thank you for submitting this enhancement request. It was reviewed by both the Db2 for z/OS development team as well as the TCPIP development team.
Here is the feedback provided by the TCPIP team:
The problem the customer encountered was a TCPIP out of storage condition causing abends and the socket calls where never returned to Db2. The resuming of these threads in Db2 was not possible. If Db2 were to add a DROP for the connection it would most likely not have worked and even if it did work the event has already been posted so it would not have been posted again even if memory had become available at that point in time.
If there was a TCPIP lock contention issue that does not resolve and that is preventing the Db2 socket call from completing a DROP would also suspend on the lock and their force command would be stuck.... without resolving the problem so this is not a good thing to do.
We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. And we hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of our products.
Sincerely,
Db2 for z/OS and TCPIP teams
