BIFs ENRYPT_DATAKEY and DECRYPT_DATAKEY* should be able to check with user ID of ACEE

The BIFs ENRYPT_DATAKEY and DECRYPT_DATAKEY* are very useful for encrypting and decrypting data (e.g., passwords) that are to be stored in DB2 tables. The programmer does not have to worry about the keys used, as they are stored in the ICSF. When the functions are called, DB2 uses RACF to check whether the caller is authorized to use the DATAKEY.

The Primary Authorization ID of the DB2 thread is used for this purpose.

For an IMS BMP without processing IMS messages, or for a "normal" batch program, this is the user ID of the person who submitted the job. However, in an IMS MPP or IMS BMP with processing IMS messages, this is the user ID that started the IMS transaction. This is often the user ID of an end user.

If the DATAKEY may only be used by specific technical user IDs, and not by "any end user", then the BIFs ENCRYPT_DATAKEY and DECRYPT_DATAKEY* cannot be used.

The ENCRYPT_DATAKEY and DECRYPT_DATAKEY* BIFs should have the option to perform the RACF check against the current ACEE of the job, started task, or TSO user, rather than the primary SQLID.

Or, other BIFs with different names should be available that perform the RACF check of the data key against the current ACEE.

    Dear Dietrich,

Thank you for submitting this enhancement request. While we view all the enhancement requests we receive as valuable and we would like to implement all of them, in an effort to have maximum transparency we are not considering the ones that aren’t currently appearing on our 12 month product roadmap. This is not to say that these enhancements may not still be implemented at some point in the future as we do evaluate our requirements on the basis of customer demand and technical impact, to deliver maximum value to our customers.

We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. And we hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.

    Sincerely,

    Db2 for z/OS Team
