IBM Data Platform Ideas Portal for Customers

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against products and services offered by the IBM Data Platform organization. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Inheritance of PRIQTY/SECQTY Parameters for LOB and Index Spaces in Newly Activated PBG Partitions

In a Universal Table Space (UTS) defined as Partition-by-Growth (PBG), when a base table includes a LOB column, the initial LOB table space and its associated index can be explicitly defined with specific primary and secondary space allocation parameters (e.g., PRIQTY=32G, SECQTY=4G for the LOB, and PRIQTY=36000, SECQTY=1800 for the index).

Once the space in the first partition of the base table space is fully utilized, Db2 automatically activates the next partition. However, the corresponding LOB and index spaces for this new PBG partition are instantiated with default allocation parameters (PRIQTY=-1, SECQTY=-1), which defer to system-managed space allocation.

To ensure consistency in space management and to avoid unpredictable allocation and extent processing behavior, it is desirable for Db2 - along with utilities such as REORG - to inherit the PRIQTY and SECQTY values from the previously defined partition’s LOB and index space definitions when activating new partitions within a PBG.
