Dear Jeff, My apologies, but I need to inform you that APAR PH62966 is actually the 'infrastructure' for the enhancement in this idea. I have modified the status back to Planned for future release.
Sincerely,
The Db2 for z/OS development team
Dear Jeff, We are pleased to inform you this enhancement request has been implemented through Db2 for z/OS APAR PH62966. The PTF for this APAR should be available today/tomorrow.
Please continue to submit enhancement requests to our team as your input helps shape the future features and functions of our offerings.
Sincerely,
The Db2 for z/OS development team
Thank you for submitting this Db2 for z/OS Idea.
After giving the request a comprehensive review, we have determined that we cannot include it as a candidate in an upcoming deliverable because it is not consistent with product architecture. As a consequence we will not be implementing this Idea.
We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. We also hope that you will continue to submit ideas for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.
Sincerely,
Db2 for z/OS Team
Hi Jeff, I have alerted our developer of your comment and asked for a response to your question.
We are trying to create an audit trail for updates to a critical table, and making it a system-period temporal table seemed to be the perfect solution without having to change any application code. However these -20528 errors are making this option unusable.
I don't understand the comment that "the product decision is to be different from LUW". Is DB2 for z/OS implementing a different way to solve this problem?
Honestly, it would seem to make more sense for the row-begin column to be set to the actual time of the update, rather than the time of the start of the unit of work. Then you could see the actual order that the rows were updated. You would still have the transaction start column to identify rows updated in the same transaction.
Thank you for submitting this enhancement. The product decision is to be different from LUW therefore this enhancement is not under consideration.
