DSNHDECP usage

The DSNHDECP modules is currently used in our shop and needs to be created for every DB2 subsystem, or data sharing group. This means that we need to create individual SDSNEXIT libraries for each subsystem. We used to have one SDSNEXIT which held all the DB2 ZPARMS and other modules such as the individual DECP module.

As it turned out, many IBM software products related to DB2 are using the DSNHDECP module to retrieve the DB2 Sub-System ID for RRSAF, CAF, etc. connections, also the DCL-Gen and others. This has led to a significant issue with our set-up since there is no DSNHDECP modules in the SDSNEXIT library, and the default for this module in the SDSNLOAD contains SSID=DSN, which does not work for us.

We are confused with the reason why the DSNHDECP is criteria for the look-ups, since we can have any name we wanted to in the DB2 MSTR JCL as DECP(DBQ0DECP) parameter for example.

When considering the complication with multiple DB2 subsystems on the same LPAR finding the correct DB2, I would think that for RRSAF, CAF, and the likes, programs can be passed the subsystem ID as a parameter (like EXEC PGM=ABC,PARM=DBQ0) or SYSIN card which then would make it simpler to use.

A requirement we have is that each DB2 subsystem has to behave the same. For this to accomplish we like to have one SDSNEXIT library used by all DB2 installations with individual ZPARM and DECP modules. The first step toward this requirement came with DB2 V10 when IBM introduced the individual DECP naming convention in the start-up JCL for each subsystem.

I am looking currently into a way to accomplish our requirements, yet the main issue we have is the DSNHDECP module, which is used by many internal programs and also 3rd party vendors products.

Dear Michael, Thank you for submitting this enhancement request. Our Db2 for z/OS development team has reviewed it and have the following questions/feedback for you:

    1. Which IBM products are troublesome concerning looking up the Db2 default SSID in DSNHDECP?

    2. We suggest that you could set DSNHDECP SSID= to the Group Attachment name if you are using a Db2 Data Sharing setup with several Db2 members. Db2 products that we are aware of can handle the Group Attachment and then the you would only have to have a single Group Attachment name SSID which is not the IBM default DSN.

    3. Db2 RRSAF supports a FIND_DB2_SYSTEMS that any IBM products could dynamically use to determine which Db2 members are available. This can be done by the application without already being connected to Db2. If that kind of support needs to be expanded, we could consider that. This RRSAF FIND_DB2_SYSTEMS can be used by any batch job, or online connection, or JCC connections.

    Thank you,

    The Db2 for z/OS Team
