V12-CERT-2017 Refresh VIEW / CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW / VIEW VERSIONING.

While tables can be altered online; views need to be dropped and recreated, resulting in business impact or planned downtimes (our environment is making extensive use of the ANSI SPARC three level architecture, with many views and views on views).

Depending on the change, we would not like the view to disappear completely, because of all the (tooling) effort needed to recreate it with the correct dependencies, packages, privileges etc. Rather, we would like to have one or more of the following options:

1. Refresh the View, altering the schema while keeping packages, authorizations etc…
2. Offer something similar to CREATE OR REPLACE seen in Oracle, resulting in all of the above,
3. Offer a versioning concept (similar to native stored procedures) with something similar to an ALTER VIEW ACTIVATE VERSION.

    Dear Philipp,

    Thank you for submitting this Db2 for z/OS enhancement request. We have re-reviewed this request and determined it does not align with plans for our upcoming 12 month roadmap. Therefore, unfortunately, we are placing this idea in not under consideration, for now.

    This idea will remain in our product backlog and will be revisited when our next 12 month planning cycle begins.

    We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team. We hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.
