Materialized Query tables in DB2 z/OS with refresh immediate option

MQT's - Materialized Query tables - are a well known feature in all advanced relational database systems. The DB2 family has this feature since more than 10 years. If you look at this functionality in DB2 LUW and DB2 z/OS the MQT functionality looks identical - but in reality DB2 z/OS lacks an very important option of the DB2 LUW MQT's. In DB2 LUW you can define MQT's with the option refresh immediate (in DB2 z/OS this is not possible in V11 / V12). Refresh immediate means in short that the MQT is refreshed then any update, insert or delete is done on the base tables of the MQT. If you want this functionality (immediate refresh) in DB2 z/OS you have to implement triggers on the base tables to get the "immediate refresh". This can be complicated and needs additional testing

    Hello,

I regularly, at least annually, check the status of my ideas. There are 10 votes for this idea. So it seems to be relevant for many customers. Even under V13 there is probably no solution to this. What is IBM planning to improve the problem described?

    Hello,

I did hope that after nearly 6 years I would receive a positive feedback now. I am disappointed about the answer ...

    kind regards

    Dear Norbert,

Thank you for submitting this Db2 for z/OS enhancement request. We have reviewed this request and believe it is a good candidate for the Db2 for z/OS product. However, it does not align within functionality prioritized for delivery within the next 12 months. Therefore, unfortunately, we will not be considering this idea at this time.

We hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.

    Sincerely,

    Db2 for z/OS Team
