Ability to ALTER BUFFERPOOL AT PARTITION LEVEL

We have partitioned by Growth table of size 1.5TB. It is defined in the bufferpool BP2. We noticed that the average row length of the rows is around 2000 and hence by altering the tablespace to BP16K0, each page will contain more rows there by giving substantial space savings.

It was noticed that the altering bufferpool to BP16K0 can only be done at the tablespace level. Tablespace will go into AREO status after this change. Later if we try to reorg individual partitions the change will not take into effect.

With system being very critical, we can't plan reorg on this table as a whole which might take more than a day, lots of sort space, longer log phase etc.

Is it possible to provide partition level change facility for changing the bufferpool page size (in our case from 4k page size to 16k page size)?

    Thank you for submitting this enhancement request. While we view all the enhancement requests we receive as valuable and we would like to implement all of them, in an effort to have maximum transparency we are closing the ones that don’t currently appear on our two year product roadmap. This is not to say that these enhancements may not still be implemented at some point in the future as we do evaluate our requirements on the basis of customer demand and technical impact, to deliver maximum value to our customers.


    We appreciate your input to the Db2 for z/OS development team.  And we hope that you will continue to submit enhancement suggestions for improvements as customer feedback is a key component to shaping the future direction of Db2 for z/OS.
