Allow Additional Predicate Consideration to a Spatial Search for Enhanced Selectivity and Performance

Add support to the spatial index definition/management logic to allow the definition of the ST_POINT spatial index in conjunction with other columns. This very common compound index approach would enhance performance by cutting down on GETPAGES at the index level, before accessing so many tablespaces pages whose rows do not qualify with the additional predicates. Another alternative proposal would involve the introduction of a bitstring column rather than an additional traditional column to help weed out spatial candidates that the customer does not wish to return to the requestor based upon other qualifications. We request that the lab investigate the use of the existing multiple-index access to achieve the selectivity in Stage 1, rather than limiting the index access to solely the spatial index and processing the other predicates in Stage 2.

Dear Lance, Thank you for submitting this enhancement request. The Db2 for z/OS development team for this component area reviewed the request and because it does not align with other higher priority items targeting development/delivery in the upcoming 12 months, we have moved it to Not under consideration at this time. The request will remain in our backlog inventory and if/when work in this area is placed on our 12 month forecast roadmap, we will certainly revisit this and potentially reopen it. Users can continue to cast votes on it, which helps us understand the importance and value it may have for more users.

    Sincerely,

    The Db2 for z/OS Team
