Bypass Package BIND/REBIND Locks for EXPLAIN(ONLY)

We have an analysis tool that we use to analyze potential changes in access paths.   For timeliness of analysis our need is to use this tool during the business day.  The tool uses EXPLAIN(ONLY) as a BIND parameter.  Based on system workload, we experience transaction delays due to LOCK WAIT time while the EXPLAIN is running.  This idea is requesting that Package LOCKs not be taken when EXPLAIN(ONLY) is used since we are not intending to change the Package Access Path, but just updating the PLAN Table with the revised rows.  Implementation of this idea goes to 24x7 support and timeliness in problem resolution in that we can run EXPLAINs without any concern for causing delays or timeouts.

    Hi,

I was wondering if this idea is getting any further consideration. We continue to have issues using EXPLAIN(ONLY) with contention on active Packages when all we want to do is generate CURRENT PLAN_TABLE rows to view the potential access path. Is this being considered for any future release?

    Thanks

    Dave.

Hi, It has been a while since I had submitted this and thought I see if there has been any discussion on when it might be included in any release. We did have any issue this morning that having this change would have prevented. Thanks for your consideration.
