Workspace Db2 for z/OS

Created on May 8, 2019

Recently someone accidently freed all packages with FREE PACKAGE(*) which took a week to recover all packages.

It took the entire DB2 systems and application staff a week to discover and bind all missing packages. Many outages were incurred during this time.

Thank you for submitting this Db2 for z/OS requirement.  Development has reviewed it and sympathizes with your situation. However, we are declining this requirement because there are legitimate de-provisioning scenarios where this syntax is legitimate.

From a tools perspective - the Admin Tool has support for showing a list of plans and packages and freeing that list - that is a much better solution.  Similarly, configuration management tooling typically allows you to script things like this, with scheduling, review, and signoff.  Our suggestion is not to simply issue commands like this, from id's with high levels of authority in a free form manner.

    Sincerely,

    Db2 for z/OS Development
