in the PMR you can see, that we want to Change all the Umlauts ä, ö, ü, ß to the corresponding character a, o, u, s with one call. Thats what translate does.
All findings in a arbitrary string should be changed from ä to a and ö to o in one call!
I think thats not possible using overlay because there is only one starting Position.

Hello Martin, Thank you for submitting this Idea. Db2 for z/OS development has reviewed it and would like to know why OVERLAY https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSEPEK_12.0.0/sqlref/src/tpc/db2z_bif_overlay.html can't be used?
