Removing a data asset from a project or catalog does not delete it from COS

Whenever a data asset gets removed from either a Watson Studio Project or a Watson Knowledge Catalog the actual file is not removed from the underlying Cloud Object Storage bucket.

The result is that there will be a lot of unreferenced files in Cloud Object Storage occupying space (and creating cost) without any chance to identify whether they are still in use / required by any project / catalog and can be permanently deleted.

The Watson Studio user interface does not show the actual file name on COS for a certain data asset and the actual filename does not match the data asset name since you can have multiple data assets with the same name with different files in the same COS bucket.

This is by design due to the fact that the file in COS could be referenced by other catalogs or projects. The behavior here matches that of behavior if your file were in another source system. Therefore, we will not be adding this to our backlog. Reach out to me (etucker@us.ibm.com) if you have questions.
