Migrating from a long time out-of-support XPS system to V14 requires all the <INFORMIXSERVER>.<COSERVER> notation to be change to <INFORMIXSERVER><COSERVER> as the dot notation is not supported under IDS. As XPS is long time out-of-support then the application will also mostly be old, and the knowledge of these applications can be non-existent. The application might not even be recompilable.
If the dot notation is allowed then the migration from XPS to IDS is now a export/import exercise. The convertion of XPS Sql Schema to IDS is trivial as most of the XPS syntax has finally made it to IDS.
The only option is to rewrite/refactor the application, and this always leads to the question .... why don't we move away from Informix

Sounds like a simple change - seems like an easy way to keep XPS customers on Informix!
The least amount of changes I find is always best. This would certainly be an easy way to keep XPS customers on Informix
That could be really useful for getting customers in to modern IDS , and does seem like a pretty minor change.
This seems like both a good idea and a trivial change given that the parsing code is there in the XPS library for the taking.
