RELATED IDEAS

The level of bundled open-source components should be clearly stated in the Release Notes or Technotes at the time of DataStage release. Additionally, the impact of differences in open-source components on DataStage should also be clearly indicated.

  • Currently, there is no mention of open-source components in the Release Notes (e.g. https://www.ibm.com/docs/ja/iis/11.7.0?topic=rn-infosphere-information-server-version-1171-fix-pack-5-releasenotes) or in the installation-related information provided at the time of DataStage Fix Pack releases (e.g. https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/node/7156676), and no prior information is available regarding the bundled open-source components.
  • Therefore, in this case (DT196711), we were unable to identify the change in default behavior on the open-source side in advance during the compatibility check at the installation planning stage. (It seems that the default behavior changed due to a Kafka version update between IIS 11.7.1.3 and the newly built 11.7.1.5, but this change is not currently documented in the Release Notes)
  • As a result, the system was built and handed over to the application development vendor (under a separate contract), but a Disk Full issue occurred afterward, affecting application testing and significantly lowering customer satisfaction.
  • Additionally, this series of reports and countermeasures resulted in an unnecessary workload (approximately 1.0 MM in this case).
