Flexible OpenPages installation options

Currently the OpenPages Installer runs a series of pre-validation checks with minimal optionality to ignore these checks.

 

A few examples:

  • Forced to install to install (or at least pass validation) OpenPages & Cognos, even if I only want to install Cognos.
  • Forced to pass database permission checks, even when the DB step is skipped.
  • Forced to have a specific known host name, when executing installations, making Docker container builds complicated (since they generate random host names during build).
  • Forced to have exactly the same NAS path in the answer file as what's in the "skipped" database, when we may want to have a post install step to align this.
  • Forced to specify a Deployment Manager node to register new OpenPages nodes, when I may want to register the new node with the Dmgr afterwards instead.
  • etc.

 

The idea is to:

  1. enable support for advanced users to install OpenPages, Cognos and Global Search independently.
  2. add more ignore flags to steps in the validation and/or installation process.

    Thank you again for submitting this RFE!

    We do have an active Containerization Strategy where Production workloads are targeted to first be supported in 4Q2020 (with IBM Cloud Pak for Data) and into 2021 (via Red Hat OpenShift).

    Prior to OpenPages 8.2, we started this strategy with the incorporation of a Docker Image supporting Non-Production workloads.

    In OpenPages 8.2, we migrated from the use of "Traditional" WebSphere to WebSphere Liberty. This simplified the deployment topology significantly.

    In subsequent Client Events (Customer Advisory Board, etc.) we will be further communicating the rollout of this strategy.

    For this particular request, we are marking as "Will Not Implement" for now but we are looking forward to continuing the discussion with both you and our other Clients...
