Add IBM Pervasive Encryption (PE) support to IBM Optim for on z/OS

Many z/OS customers deploy IBM Pervasive Encryption (PE) dataset encryption to protect their sensitive PCI and PII data.

IBM Optim data extract datasets contain such sensitive PCI and PII data unloaded from Db2 for z/OS tables and must be encrypted.

According to IBM Optim support the IBM Optim for z/OS product does not support the use of IBM PE encrypted datasets as input or output for any of the Optim functions at this point in time.

This prevents IBM Optim customers on z/OS to protect their IBM Optim data extract datasets by using IBM PE and is highly inconsistent with IBM's "Encryption everywhere" mainframe marketing strategy (!).

IBM Pervasive Encryption (PE) support should be added to the IBM Optim for z/OS product as soon as possible. Otherwise the affected customers need to look for suitable third-party products which support IBM PE encryption and could replace IBM Optim.

    Requested IBM PE encryption support was delivered by PTF PH49845 - "SUPPORT FOR ENCRYPTION WITH PS LARGE AND PS BASIC DATA SETS" (PH49845: SUPPORT FOR ENCRYPTION WITH PS LARGE AND PS BASIC DATA SETS (ibm.com)).

    Hi,

    As of 14 September 2022, Optim native z/OS development is reviewing options with a goal to support Pervasive Encryption as soon as possible.

    One early result is that Optim does support encryption for PSE datasets.

    We are reviewing options for further support improvements at top priority.
