IBM Data Platform Ideas Portal for Customers

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against products and services offered by the IBM Data Platform organization. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Allow Configurable Concurrent Masking Jobs in IBM Optim Data Privacy

IBM Optim Data Privacy currently limits the number of concurrent masking jobs to a maximum of 4, and IBM Support has confirmed that this is a fixed product limitation in both Optim Data Privacy 1.2 and Optim 2.0.

Our customer has increased the Optim application server resources to 87 GB RAM and 22 CPU cores, but the product still allows only 4 masking jobs to run concurrently, while additional jobs remain in the Submitted state.

We request an enhancement to allow administrators to configure the maximum number of concurrent masking jobs based on the available system resources.

For example, customers with higher CPU and memory capacity should be able to increase the concurrent job limit beyond 4, subject to appropriate resource and performance considerations.

A configurable setting would allow customers to optimize masking throughput based on their environment while avoiding an unnecessary fixed concurrency limitation.

Expected Benefit:

  • Better utilization of available CPU and memory resources

  • Increased masking throughput

  • Reduced job wait time

  • Improved scalability for environments with large volumes of masking jobs

  • Greater flexibility to size Optim based on customer workload requirements

Ideally, the concurrency limit could be configurable by administrators, with appropriate guidance or safeguards from IBM regarding recommended CPU/memory requirements per concurrent masking job.
