Removing excess space from the report in PAW

Problem Statement:
We have developed a dynamic active form report for users, allowing them to select parameters such as Year and Department. When users select “Total Departments”, the report dynamically adjusts and utilizes the entire available space based on the data, displaying all relevant information properly. However, when users choose a specific department, the report displays only the relevant data, but it results in excessive white space beneath the data. This forces users to scroll down to view the next sheet of the report, which contains multiple reports across different sheets.

The issue occurs because the report does not adjust the display to fit the amount of data for individual departments, leading to inefficient use of space and a poor user experience.

Business Concern:
The business has raised concerns about the user experience. The blank white space appearing when selecting individual departments creates frustration for users, as they have to scroll excessively to view the next sheet, even though there is little or no data in the blank space. This behavior leads to a less efficient and more cumbersome report navigation experience.

The business needs a solution to dynamically adjust the report layout to fit the amount of data for a selected department, thereby eliminating unnecessary white space and improving usability.

Next Steps for IBM Development Team:
Priority Request: We request that the IBM Development Team prioritize this issue, as it impacts the usability and user experience of the active form reports, which are critical for daily operations.

Issue Investigation:

We need IBM Development to investigate why the active form report is not adjusting the space properly when data for a specific department is chosen. The goal is to ensure that the report automatically adjusts to the amount of data displayed, without leaving large empty areas.

Solution Exploration:

IBM Development should explore potential fixes or improvements to the active form layout, such as:

Dynamically resizing the report area based on the selected department and the amount of data.
Reducing or eliminating the blank white space in the report when fewer departments are selected.
Ensuring smooth and responsive navigation across the sheets, eliminating unnecessary scrolling.
Workaround or Fix: If a full solution cannot be implemented immediately, IBM Development should provide a workaround to mitigate the issue temporarily, such as a script or setting that dynamically adjusts the report layout to minimize excess white space.

Timeline and Updates: We request IBM Development to provide an estimated timeline for resolving this issue and to keep us updated on progress.

Just to add a bit of detail to this request:

    • Business would like the size of websheet widgets in PAW books to dynamically change in height/size dependent on the rows in the websheet after selections are made.

    • As is, filling the whole page with the widget results in the excess white space from the PAW widget beyond the cells of the websheet.
