Configurable Member Tooltip Templates

Dear team,

Description

PAW currently allows member tooltips to be configured in the Cube Viewer by selecting a member property or attribute.

More complex tooltips can already be created using a Rule-based attribute. For example, a dedicated attribute can combine multiple attributes and properties into a single tooltip:

MassachusettsParent: East Region
Currency: USDVP: VP1Default Plant: Plant A
Description: A local organizational unit within the East Region...

However, this requires creating and maintaining an additional attribute and Rule solely for tooltip purposes.

It would be useful to provide a configurable tooltip template directly in PAW, allowing users to combine existing member properties and attributes without requiring a dedicated Rule-based attribute.

For example:

<Member Caption>Parent: <Parent>Currency: <Currency>VP: <VP>Default Plant: <Default Plant>
Description: <Description>

The template should allow users to define:

  • Which properties and attributes are displayed

  • The order of the information

  • Custom labels

  • Line breaks / formatting

  • How empty attributes are handled

  • Optional fallback to the Member Unique Name or Member Caption

This would provide a more flexible and user-friendly alternative to creating a dedicated Rule-based tooltip attribute.

Thanks in advance.

With best regards,
Vitalij

    Related to PAOC-I-1581

    https://ibm-data-and-ai.ideas.ibm.com/ideas/PAOC-I-1581

After reviewing the existing functionality and the original idea, I believe this request is better considered as an extension of PAOC-I-1581 rather than a separate requirement.

The current member tooltip functionality already allows a Rule-based attribute to combine multiple pieces of information. The remaining request is mainly about making this configuration more flexible without requiring a dedicated Rule-based attribute.

PAOC-I-1581 is already marked as Future consideration, so this idea can be considered related to that existing request.
