The two limits are inconsistent and not explained in the product. Direct paste into a book is rejected above 200 KB. The Image Gallery accepts the same file types up to 500 KB, but only after an administrator uploads an existing file. A screenshot that fails paste can be valid for the gallery, with no indication of why the limits differ. Please align them, or state the reason for the difference and show the applicable limit and the actual image size at the point of rejection. Aligning the numbers alone does not replace a way to insert a readable screenshot of the current view without saving and uploading a file first.
The Image Gallery does not address the use case in this request.
Images reach the Gallery only through an administrator upload of an existing file: Administration → Excel and Customizations → Images → Upload. The dialog accepts PNG, JPG, JPEG, GIF, SVG, and WebP, up to 500 KB per file. It does not capture the current view or book.
A user who wants a screenshot of a view must still take the screenshot, save it as a file, and have an administrator upload it before it can be dragged from the Gallery into a book. Direct paste remains limited to 200 KB and still does not show the image size.
So the Gallery raises the limit and centralizes shared images, but it does not remove the external file step or provide a screenshot action.
The request therefore still stands: show the actual image size when a paste is rejected, and provide a way to insert a readable screenshot of the current view without having to save and upload a file first.
+1
I would support this enhancement.
Screenshots are very useful when creating documentation and training books in Planning Analytics Workspace. A 200 KB limit can be restrictive for screenshots of full views, especially when the image needs to remain readable.
Having to crop or externally compress screenshots is not ideal. An option to insert a screenshot directly, or to have PAW automatically optimize it to fit within the supported size, would make this much easier.
