Default Report Creation Options for New Worksheet and New Workbook in PAfE

Current Behavior

Customers using PAfE frequently work with multiple Excel workbooks and worksheets containing TM1 reports.

When creating a new report, the default option is to create the report on the currently active worksheet. This creates a risk of unintentionally overwriting existing content.

Additionally, when creating a report from Cube Viewer, the report is created as a new worksheet in the active workbook. Users who work with multiple Excel workbooks simultaneously may have difficulty locating the newly created report because it is added to whichever workbook is currently active.

Requested Enhancement

  1. Provide an administrative or user-level setting to define the default destination for newly created reports.

    • New Worksheet (recommended default)

    • New Workbook

  2. Provide a dedicated setting for reports created from Cube Viewer, allowing them to be created directly in a new workbook by default.

  3. Allow these preferences to persist across PAfE sessions.

Business Justification

  • Reduces the risk of accidentally overwriting existing report content.

  • Improves usability for users working with multiple workbooks simultaneously.

  • Makes report creation behavior more predictable and consistent.

  • Reduces time spent locating newly created reports after Cube Viewer operations.

  • Improves user productivity and overall end-user experience.

Example Scenario

A financial analyst typically works with several Excel workbooks open at the same time (budget, forecast, actuals, and ad-hoc analysis). When creating a new TM1 report, the current default behavior may place the report in the active worksheet or active workbook, increasing the risk of overwriting existing content or making the new report difficult to locate. Allowing administrators or users to define a default report creation destination would eliminate this risk and streamline day-to-day report development activities.

Expected Result

Users should be able to configure report creation behavior so that new reports are created either:

  • On a new worksheet by default, or

  • In a new workbook by default,

including reports generated from Cube Viewer. This setting should be retained between sessions and applied consistently throughout PAfE.
