This portal is to open public enhancement requests against products and services offered by the IBM Data Platform organization. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Marking as shipped - as SDK supports async API calls.
Hi following up on this, can I close this? Direct async API calls are needed because async through the SDK is already supported?
https://ibm.github.io/watsonx-ai-python-sdk/fm_embeddings.html#ibm_watsonx_ai.foundation_models.embeddings.Embeddings.agenerate
I've looked at the OpenAI REST API spec https://platform.openai.com/docs/api-reference/embeddings/object and they only have a sync API. So it means the Python SDK is doing the async work here, not the actual REST API. Note the openai python library referenced is version 0.0.3, with no updates since March 2023, so most of their newer APIs aren't supported through that lib. I will talk to the team for considering adding it in the context of embedding models only.
Client stated again that async calls are industry standard, as many follow the OpenAI standard (https://pypi.org/project/openai-async/). Only IBM is the "outlier", so we'd welcome a prioritisation.
