I want to begin to type code manually, and have the assistant present an autocompletion based on what it thinks I am trying to do. Let me either ignore it or use it. When I want to use natural language to generate code, let me keep focus in the editor and ask the question there to insert code. I don't want to switch to the pane, ask a question, then copy and switch back to my editor. Most of the time, it provides code that is duplicate to what I have (ie. it created a function where what I needed was the business logic inside. If I could ask the question where my cursor is located, it could understand the context of the surrounding and limit the cleanup that I have to apply.
If I never have to open the pane, except for to explain selected code, I would be happy!

This could be implemented relatively naturally if inline code suggestion was more aggressive. Currently, it only completes to the end of the line of code that your cursor is on. It also does not seem to suggest code on an empty line. If it suggested multiple lines of code and suggested code on an empty line, you could type a comment and have it start to suggest on the newline underneath of it. For example:
// foo() function that returns an int
// Assisted by WCA@IBM
// Latest GenAI contribution: ibm/granite-8b-code-instruct
int foo() {
return 0;
}
