Ability to search by Icelandic inflections / word forms

We have been looking for ways to support searching in Discovery by the different Icelandic word forms / inflections. We tried uploading the different forms into the Discovery synonyms support, but encountered a limitation of max 5000 expansions or max 25000 terms.

Other, ElasticSearch-based search solutions have solved this for Icelandic with a stemmer dictionary like this one:

We've seen unofficial claims that Discovery uses ElasticSearch [1]. If that is true, we wonder if there is some way to use a stemmer dictionary like that with Discovery? - or if there are other ways to support search by the different word forms.

It would be great if Discovery could either accept all the different Icelandic words and their variations as synonyms, or better yet, utilize a stemmer dictionary like is possible with ElasticSearch.


On a related note: Representatives from the Icelandic Centre for Language Technology [2] have reached out to us and expressed interest in presenting their offerings to Watson R&D - do you have contacts that might be interested in taking them up on their offer? - I'll attach a document from them with an overview of the available resources.
