Option for replacing/updating packages without breaking existing usages of the package when importing content.

There is need to update a package and a Dashboard (only these two objects in a big folder structure) in a PROD-Environment by moving, copying or migrating from a DEV-Environment. The updated package is used in many more Dashboards and Reports, but the update in the package is only relevant for the one updated Dashboard. The current method of importing/migrating data between environments breaks the links to the updated package in other Dashboards and Reports. No matter what you do now, if you have an intermediate step in the migration (which is unfortunately the case when only one administrator can do the copying but there are many content developers), Cognos will always lose the connection to the replaced package in other reports or dashboards and it is necessary to relink the package many times

    Hi Tim,

    Feedback as requested from the customer.

    The main intention is to be independent from the type of content migration. In the customer's case for example Person A does a migration from DEV to a TEMP-Subfolder on the PROD-Server. Afterwards the developer (not Person A) wants to move the content to the final destination. At the moment this is not possible without breaking links when not updating an entire folder structure (permissions, schedules, etc. breaks).

    Thank you for submitting your idea. I would like to make sure that we properly understand your use case and the issues you are seeing. Could you please detail exactly how you are moving assets between environments, and what types of assets? And then also what exactly you are doing to rectify the issue when you encounter it? Does the issue happen with all assets, or just certain ones? Thank you.
