Ability to archive standby - backup and restore(RIMS)

Jill,Please consider this email as a formal request for enhancement to DB2.Verizon needs the capability to do a DB2 online backup of an HADR standby database, along with a subsequent restore of the database that maintains the database as an HADR standby database. Currently, we cannot backup the database, as we cannot connect to the database. Additionally, Verizon needs the capability to issue a set write suspend IO command on an HADR standby database, along with a subsequent set write resume IO command, so we can take a VSU snap without stopping the instance. Currently, we cannot issue this command as we cannot connect to the database. As you are aware, Verizon took a large outage in IVAPP West due in part to the fact that we couldn't quickly rebuild the standby database after human error marked the database as bad. On this large database, it took us about a week to finally get it restored. During that time, we lost the primary database due to a known APAR, and it wouldn't restart as it kept trying to connect to the standby database, resulting in IBM having to patch the DB2 DB CFG file to mark the HADR role as standard (PMR 07782.442.000). If the standby was available, we would not have had this outage.
