Suppport temporal tables in combination with row permission

Row permission should be supported for temporal tables.

We use temporal tables to track the history of records. This works. We now like to expand our database to a multitenancy database with security control by row permission.

This does not work, ist not supported.

The workaround with triggers leads to an division by zero error. Ticket is available.

    Dear all,

the mentioned trigger based workaround causes this problem:

In case one transaction does this

UPDATE TABLE SET F1 = OTTO

UPDATE TABLE SET F2 = KURT

I have two records in the histo / time temporal table, because the trigger writes two records.

The original DB2 histo / time temporal table has only one record.

    Pretty poor this topic.

Does any other database handle this in a better way? Should we solve this topic by program logic?

Should we avoid to do two updates on one table in one transaction - not easy in an existing system.

Is any implementation histo + row permission combination planned at IBM side?

    Any hints welcome.

    Kind regards,

    Jens Bauer

    Dear Jens,

Thank you for submitting this Db2 for z/OS enhancement request. We have reviewed this request and believe it is a good candidate for the Db2 for z/OS product. However, it does not align within functionality prioritized for delivery within the next 24 months. Therefore, unfortunately, we will not be considering this idea at this time. It will remain in our inventory and we may revisit it at some time in the future.

    Sincerely,

    The Db2 for z/OS Team
