Use profile tables for local applications

We use profile tables successfully for different scenarios. In addition to remote applications, our DB2 IT infrastructure also includes local applications for which we also have profile table  usage scenarios. For example, we set the explain mode for remote applications via profiles in order to enable quality assurance with regard to access paths. We would like to see the same feature, for example - setting the explain mode - for local applications. Are there plans on the part of IBM to treat local applications with regard to the profile table features in the same way as remote applications?

    Hello Janet,

    the alignment sounds great.

Therefore we see another special register that we would like to prioritize. Beside the CURRENT EXPLAIN MODE we think that SET CURRENT LOCK TIMEOUT will help us to improve our management for local Db2 applications in the future.

    Kind Regards

    Luca

Hello Luca, We do not yet have a tentative date for this idea. However, our goal is to align the similar support for local and remote applications. Please let us know, besides CURRENT EXPLAIN MODE, are there any other special registers of higher priority in your list?

    Sincerely,

The Db2 for z/OS development team

Hello Luca, Please accept my apologies for the delayed response - we are certainly pleased to hear the solution in case TS016048643 is working out so well! I will ask the SME for this idea for an update. As you know, dates can be influenced by many factors and thus, can change, so we generally do not externalize them. Let me see what can be shared. Stay tuned...

    Hello Janet,

again we have a case where the functionality for setting special registers with the usage of profile tables for local applications would have helped us solving some issues. Is there already a date for implementation of our idea?

Also we want to thank the dev team for quickly helping us out with our case TS016048643. The solution works great!

    Kind Regards
    Luca
