Ability to control/renew V12 API Key expiry date

See this idea on ideas.ibm.com

Currently in PA aaS the API Keys have an expiry date of 365 days. This is not displayed anywhere and learned it the hard way.

Talking with the support, it seems an Expiry Date column will be added to the interface.

Now the enhancement request is to allow to control/remove the expiry date.

In our situation the API is used by systems to load data to PAaaS, this is an hourly refresh which is meant to run for the years to come. Ideally we don't want to revisit code/parameters to update an API key.

We wan to either remove the API Key expiry or being able to extend the expiry in the PAW interface.

I would strongly suggest NOT to remove expiration of an API key. This for a couple of reasons:

    • users won't remove the API if it's not used anymore, so you'll get a list of unused keys
    • triggering an action to extend the key, forces people to rethink (or at take action) if they still need it
    •  it's a security method

Personally I wouldn't add such message to the API response if the key is expired. I'ld give an error code and a normal message saying something went wrong connecting.

I do think a automated notification should be there in the sence of an email. This can't be turned off. The reciepent could be default the person linked with the license or some other person who is already doing actions with IBM, and in addition, ability to add a user. This last one I would advice that you enter a maillist for then if the user in your company leaves, it easier to adapt.

Unfortunatly, most applications with keys forget to implement a solution for this the expiry of keys.
