I've changed the status of this enhancement to 'Functionality already exists'. All formulas are expected to work the same in Excel and TM1Web regardless of the cell being in a column or row that is hidden. This includes SUBNM functions. If you can reproduce a situation where a function is not working correctly when hidden please open a support ticket with the Excel file for review.
Let me give you an example: You have an Excel chart that refers to TM1 data and want to hide the data range.
I've updated the status of the enhancement to 'Needs more information'. It's unclear what the actually expectation is in this case. I'm assuming one of the parameters in the SUBNM function is referencing another cell. Is it the subnm cell that is hidden or the cell being referenced. Is the issue that the change in the subnm not forcing a recalculation on the book?
