Format Aggregation calculation as a Parent

(See attached file to view screenshots)

Idea Details: Use a real-life scenario to explain the problem statement/pain points,

PAW allows users to create calculations that aggregates several members (or the content of a subset). However, the created calculation appears as a “regular” member within the cubeview and not as the “parent or total” of the members that constitutes the sum.

State your current workaround

There’s none in PAW. The alternative is to do it in PASS through the UDC feature (otherwise known as “Custom rollup” or “Subset within a set”)

State any proposed solution

Within the calculation prompt, introduce a tick-box under the “Aggregate” calculation type to show the calculation as a parent (Aggregate is the only calculation where it would make sense as it behaves like a consolidated member)

With “Show Aggregate as Parent” off, the view would look like this

When it’s on, the user would see this

State the benefits/value this idea has, state # of users impacted and how often are they impacted)

This enhancement would allow user to have a visual cue to quickly identify the total as it would be shown as the parent. It will also allow easier manipulation when the user wants to see or hide the detail of the calculation

Updated status to future consideration. Although this idea is not on the current IBM Planning Analytics roadmap we will keep it in the idea backlog and reevaluate at a later date.

Note that we intend to provide additional flexibility around formatting for different row and column types in the modern PAW cube viewer. This will include formatting options for the member or calculation name as well as the calculated data. We could conceive of a conditional format being configured by the book author that would apply to all calculated values, as well as manual formats for specific calculations,
