IBM Data and AI Ideas Portal for Customers

This portal is to open public enhancement requests against products and services offered by the IBM Data & AI organization. To view all of your ideas submitted to IBM, create and manage groups of Ideas, or create an idea explicitly set to be either visible by all (public) or visible only to you and IBM (private), use the IBM Unified Ideas Portal (https://ideas.ibm.com).

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Search existing ideas

Start by searching and reviewing ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted, and add a comment, vote, or subscribe to updates on them if they matter to you. If you can't find what you are looking for,

Post your ideas

Post ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted and upvote them if they matter to you,

  1. Post an idea

  2. Upvote ideas that matter most to you

  3. Get feedback from the IBM team to refine your idea

Mapping between objects in physical data model (PDM) and its respective objects in a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) during Metadata Importing process

Most of the customers use to use data modeling tools (ERwin, PowerDesigner, E/R Studio ...) to design graphically their database structures and then, automatically, generate DDL to build their physical schemas into different RDBMS such as DB2, Oracle, SQL Server and so on. This process creates a natural dependence between these 2 categories of technologies (Data Modeling tools and RDBMS) where the mappings/links between their objects needs to be tracked/recorded for a proper data governance.

So, IKC needs to provide a feature/capability able to create a mapping/link between equivalents objects in physical data model (PDM) and physical RDBMS during Metadata Importing (MDI) process. For instance, TABLES and its ATTRIBUTES in a PDM data model should be linked/mapped to its respective TABLES and FIELDS in a RDBMS, and vice-versa, depending on the order of MDI execution.

This remains in our prioritized backlog but we do not yet have it in our roadmap.

This is the concept of vertical lineage that besides data (horizontal lineage) is a lineage requirement to have for many organisations. As a matter of fact from a model driven code generation perspective it is required to know what exact technical fields are related to the the design / model entities.
