Show sample data from assets deployed in the catalogue in a custom order

See this idea on ideas.ibm.com

Table data in a database is added to by thousands to tens of thousands of new records every day and in some cases columns. In this case, it would be very helpful for Data Consumer to have sample data of the most recent data to judge the data quality of the asset. However, the current method of showing sample data for an asset in IKC is to show the most recent (oldest) data in a ‘sequential’ order, which can be confusing for Data Consumer to use the assets. Of course, there is a ‘random’ option in the API, but it is not satisfactory for Data Consumer.
Therefore, it is necessary for Data Producer to give customisation options like ‘ordere by’ to the way sample data is fetched so that Data Consumer can judge the correct data quality.

@Marcus, I don't know if this answers your question, but the customer is not applying the Data Quality of the IKC. The data quality I was referring to is the quality itself that Data Consumer sees by eye-checking, which is why the column values in the sample data provided by the IKC appearing as ‘null’ is misleading to Data Consumer.

Data Producers deploy table assets directly to the Catalog, and the deployed assets are informed via API to their custom data-portal. The customer is managing thousands of these table assets.

I hope our customer's use case makes more sense to you, and please let us know if you have any further questions. Thanks.

    Hi @Marcus Boone

For this customer, preview data is important. There are more important columns in the table that have expanded over time, and Data Consumer must see the actual data (content) of the expanded columns and determine the data. However, the preview (sample data) fetches the content of old records (rows), and the values of the expanded columns are filled with ‘null’, so it is not possible to determine the data. Therefore, they need to give an option like ‘order by [TIMESPAMP] desc’ through the IKC API, so they are hoping to add a custom order function when fetching the preview data.

Hope this helps you understand the customer's use case.

    Thanks.
