IBM Data and AI Ideas Portal for Customers

Shape the future of IBM!

We invite you to shape the future of IBM, including product roadmaps, by submitting ideas that matter to you the most. Here's how it works:

Post your ideas

Post ideas and requests to enhance a product or service. Take a look at ideas others have posted and upvote them if they matter to you,

  1. Post an idea

  2. Upvote ideas that matter most to you

  3. Get feedback from the IBM team to refine your idea

Help IBM prioritize your ideas and requests

The IBM team may need your help to refine the ideas so they may ask for more information or feedback. The product management team will then decide if they can begin working on your idea. If they can start during the next development cycle, they will put the idea on the priority list. Each team at IBM works on a different schedule, where some ideas can be implemented right away, others may be placed on a different schedule.

Receive notification on the decision

Some ideas can be implemented at IBM, while others may not fit within the development plans for the product. In either case, the team will let you know as soon as possible. In some cases, we may be able to find alternatives for ideas which cannot be implemented in a reasonable time.

need SQL tuning component

Now, we are using DSM to manage 235 sets of Db2 databases, of which SQL tuning is a more commonly used function for our system administrators and DBAs. We often use the SQL tuning function to optimize the SQL statements running in the production...

I would like to force the use of the "DEFER" option on the creation of an index (using Zparm to make it optional).

We have DBAs that at times (accidently) run a "CREATE INDEX" and fail to include the "DEFER" option. This is rather easy to do because the reverse engineering tools fail to create syntax with the "DEFER" option. The creation of indexes can be ve...

Dynamic Plan Stability - Option to restabilize an invalidated query missing

We've got several SQL queries stabilized with dynamic plan stability. Reason is to prevent them from getting a bad accesspath. After operations like "ALTER TABLE ... ROTATE PARTITION..." the query is flagged to valid N in SYSIBM.SYSDYNQRY. Than we...

Add a STOP DB2 mode that cancels connected threads, but not internal processes.

We have struggled with getting a "clean" shutdown of Db2 for years. If we try to use STOP DB2 MODE(QUIESCE), Db2 will not stop. Persistent threads from STCs such as CICS regions, WAS Z servants, and ARS CMOD servers do not "end", so they never al...

Option to dictate behaviour regarding deadlock victim selected on deadlocks involving DDL ALTERs

In true 24*7 production environments there is an increasing expectation that simple(on the face of it) DDL changes should be able to break-in concurrent with application workload. In the case of high-arrival rate transactions even at the quietest...

Simplify Alter

In Db2 z/OS version 10 Pending Alters/Deferred Alters were introduced. Deferred Alters are not compatible with most Immediate Alters. Deferred Alters need materializing REORG before immediate Alter, or the Immediate Alter has to be run before...

FL LEVEL support

In Db2 12 the Functional Level is currently *not* externalized in various places where it most definitely should be. Notably the PLAN_TABLE, IFCID 316 and IFCID 401. If you are attempting tuning you *must* know under which FL level the SQL in ques...
